INTRODUCTION
Since the beginning of interpersonal interactions through social networking sites, each person on said networks developed its own personal etiquette when it came to being contacted by other people in the same networks. This text is my attempt at a clarification about my personal etiquette.
I recommend reading the text thoroughly as it contains precise information about my goals and expectations on the use of Facebook as a social tool. Please do not take anything written here personally; this disclaimer is not intended to offend or discriminate, it’s rather a mean of communicating my own views on the social network use so it can be a pleasurable experience for everyone involved, saving time and embarrassment.
This disclaimer can be changed at any time without previous warning.
ADDING ME
If we have never met in real life or messaged each other in a Facebook application or group before, please do not add me without sending me a message stating who you are and the reason why you’re adding me first. I reserve myself the right to ignore your friend request if you fail to do so.
Please do not add me if you don’t intend on keeping in touch in some way. I won’t keep people with whom I don’t have some kind of exchange beyond stumbling upon common Facebook applications or getting FunWall posts from in my friends list. I’m all for meeting new people, but I’m not a keeper and I find having a lot of people in my list just to add on my numbers nothing but annoying.
Also, please do not add me if your profile is based on your sexual preferences, fetishes or if you’re looking for a sexual partner. I’m a sexual being too and there’s nothing wrong with sex after all, but I do not enjoy being contacted by people who summarize their lives and personalities to their sexual activities.
LANGUAGE BARRIER
If you don’t speak Portuguese, make sure you can speak proper English if you want to strike a conversation with me through any means. English is not my native language either, but it’s the only language I know besides Portuguese through which I can communicate with non-Portuguese speakers. I won’t struggle to understand your language and I don’t expect you to struggle to understand mine, but if you want to talk there has to be a common ground or all we’ll be getting is communication noise.
APPLICATIONS
Please do not send me invitations to spam applications. Any application which requires you to invite friends before showing any results (like tests or quizzes) or gives you the option of inviting friends every two actions taken by you falls into the spam application category. If you do send me invitations to such applications, I’ll first report the application to the Facebook team and then delete you from my friends list without previous warning.
Invitations to useful, fun, spam-free applications are very welcome.
